Starnode To Release USC Services For Inclusion in eOTD

A special committee meeting of the Starnode Executive Management has decided to make the USC Services available to ECCMA to form the basis of a services Catalog standard in the eOTD. This is a major change of direction and will move the USC Services from being a proprietary standard to be an open International Standard.

Starnode is an International content refinery that has successfully designed and managed standards to fulfill the needs of their major clients. Pieter Strydom, the Operations Director of Starnode, said ”as a content refinery and with the Starnode focus on Master Data for ERP systems, the development and management of standards has never been the core business of Starnode, but was seen to be a vital component of the business to deliver effective cataloging and codification of services.” This has to be seen against the background of a lack of global standardization in the world and the need that existed to translate between standards. He continues: “We received a number of requests from all over the world for solutions for the management of a standardized services catalog. To fulfill this need, we leveraged our experience in materials catalog standards development and maintenance, specifically with the USC, and invested heavily in the development of the USC Services Catalog standard.”

Since the development of the USC Services Cataloging Standard, a number of projects in South Africa and the Middle East have used it. Although these projects did contribute to the growth of the Services dictionary, their main contribution has been to the improvement in the methodology of implementing and applying the USC Services dictionary to achieve specific business objectives at each client. “For us at Starnode, it is important that all our projects exceed the required project benefits and therefore add value to client’s business. We can now proudly state that the USC Services is Filed proven and can be implemented successfully at both small or large international corporate companies,” Reinhard Schiel, the Starnode’s International marketing manager. He continues that Starnode will engage with ECCMA to initiate the process of incorporation of the USC Services into the eOTD standard.
