PiLog User Group – South Africa

PiLog hosted their first user group for 2010 on 3 February at Shelanti in Centurion, South Africa. The meeting was well attended (67 people) by current as well as potential PiLog clients. The Agenda was divided into four Sessions with key note speakers per session from PiLog, Telkom and EXXARO. Each Session was concluded with a question and answer sessions where clients had the opportunity to ask questions, or share ideas with colleagues from other companies.

Mr. Bertie le Roux (Financial Advisor) facilitated the workshop and a number of PiLog personnel and clients did presentations. The topics under discussion were the current PiLog structure, ISO 8000, Latest Technologies & Trends, latest PiLog software releases and case studies presented by clients.

Mr. Pieter Strydom (PiLog) welcomed everybody at the first PiLog user group for 2010. Mr. Hugo Lubbe (PiLog) then did his presentation on the objectives for the user group and what PiLog and the clients want to accomplish with the User Group in the next few years. Mr. Pieter Strydom gave the members an overview of PiLog’s current structure and their strategy for the future. He also updated everybody on the latest movements on ISO 8000 and the involvement of SABS.

The second session of the day was opened by Mr. Wynand Nortje (PiLog) who shared some ideas on the latest technologies and trends. He informed the clients of the upgrade paths for the different products on offer by PiLog. Mr. Hjalmar Mulder (PiLog) shared his ideas with the audience in terms of PiLog’s future implementation approach. As the last speaker of this session, Mr. Hennie Briedenhann (PiLog) had the opportunity to share the latest trends in the Data Services environment with delegates.

After a well deserved lunch break, everybody assembled in the conference room to take part in a group discussion lead by Mr. Hjalmar Mulder and Mr. Natie Venter (Telkom) on the benefits gained and approach that Telkom took with their eCAT implementation. Mr. Gregg Naude (PiLog) presented all the detail functionalities of the PiLog electronic catalogue (eCat), potenntial duplicate resolution (PDR) and master data acquisition (MDA) modules. A live demo of these software modules was also given by Mr. Leon Claassens (PiLog) and Mr. James Ross (PiLog), simultaneously with Mr Naude’s presentation.

The last session of the day kicked-off with a very useful and interesting presentation by Mr. Johan Braak (EXXARO) on the benefits gained on the PDR project PiLog managed and implemented at EXXARO. Mr. Le Roux facilitated a user group committee selection session where the following members were selected: Mr. Willie Bronkhorst (Sasol), Mr. Abraham de Wet (Telkom), Mr. Melusi Dube (National Treasury), Mr. Sauer van Straaten (SITA), Me. Marlene Botha (EXXARO), Mr. Gert van Rensburg (Transnet), Mr. Attie Ackerman (MMC), Mr. Fred Koen (Eskom) and Mr. Pieter Strydom (PiLog).

In his closing address, Mr. Pieter Strydom shared some ideas on the way forward. All the attendees was in agreement that this was a valuable workshop and that they have learned a tremendous lot and got new ideas that they can implement in their own environment to the benefit of their own companies.
